Private label and OEM are two ways of getting professional beauty tools under your own name. They sound similar, but they work differently, and knowing which one fits your plan makes the first conversation with a manufacturer much easier.
Private label
With private label you choose a product that already exists in the manufacturer's range and put your brand on it. Your logo can be engraved or printed, the finish and colors can be adjusted, and the tools can be packed in your own boxes, pouches or cases. It is usually the quicker route, because the product itself is already developed.
OEM
With OEM, the product is made to your own specification. You bring the idea, a sketch or a reference sample, and the manufacturer works out the materials, size, finish and construction with you. This takes longer, but the result is a product nobody else sells.
What the process looks like
- Choose a product, or share the requirements for a new one
- Confirm the material, size, finish and construction
- Add your logo, colors, engraving or printing
- Review mockups and samples, where applicable, before larger production
- Develop the packaging: boxes, pouches, cases, labels and inserts
- Approved products move into bulk manufacturing with quality control
- The finished, branded products are packed and shipped to your destination
Before you get in touch
You do not need everything on day one. A product idea, your logo and a rough quantity are enough to start. Minimum order quantities vary by product and by how much customization is involved, so it is worth asking early.
